“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” Hebrews 13:3
The goal of Jail Ministries is to help each prisoner take the steps necessary to understand his or her own relationship with Jesus Christ. A transliteration of Matthew 6:33 describes it well when it says “Give first priority to Jesus Christ and the values of His kingdom and everything else will turn out all right” (translated by Carl Lundquist).
Minnehaha County Jail currently has approximately 400 prisoners from fourteen different cellblocks. At this time, Central’s Jail Ministry team provides six English Bible studies along with many contacts with Spanish speaking prisoners through the leadership of Hector Curriel. Jail Ministries would like to expand the number of prisoners they minister to in both the English and Spanish speaking Bible studies as well providing a course on money management called, “Making Ends Meet”. But in order for this to be accomplished, additional team members to teach English and Spanish Bible studies along with teachers for the money management class are needed.
If you are interested in being part of Jail Ministries, you will be asked to complete an application process that includes approval from the jail staff. Click here for the Jail Ministry Team Information form. Complete and return to the address listed on the form. Click here for the Background Investigation Application. Again, complete and return to the address listed on the form. Once this process is completed, you will have the opportunity to go along with a leader as a silent observer to see if you feel you would like to be part of this ministry.
