Elder Board Nominees
John Barker (Second Term)
John and his wife, Jenna, have been together nearly 20 years and have 3 kids, Bryn (11), Sam (8), and Grace (6). They’ve been attending Central for seven years. John is the owner of ECM, a private wealth management firm.
What John loves most about Central is the Bible-based principles and teaching, the worship, and the people. The history, governance, and children’s ministry rounds out his top 6! He’s excited and honored to be used by God in any manner, and views serving at Central as a privilege.
Jamie Nold
Jamie and his wife, Tammy, have lived in Sioux Falls and attended Central for the past 27 years. They have two kids, Hailey and Riley.
Jamie has been in the education field for the past 30 years and is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Sioux Falls schools. He’s served as a principal, assistant principal, teacher, and coach.
What Jamie has loved about Central is the fact that his children were able to learn and grow at Central. He also appreciates the opportunities his family has had to serve our community, country, and internationally through Central. He values the Biblical teaching, LifeGroups, focused outreach work, and missions, among other things.
Jamie considers it a great honor to be part of an education team that visited schools in Ethiopia on behalf of Central Church, and he is currently collaborating with a team to establish an English Literacy program at those schools. Wherever it’s God’s will for him to serve in his role, Jamie is eager to answer the call.
Jake Pettengil
Jake and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 15 years have attended Central as a family for the past seven years. He has three kids, Sadie (13), Sawyer (10), and Silas (7). Jake currently work at Sioux Falls Christian in the middle school as a principal.
He looks forward to serving on the Elder Board at Central because he gets to walk alongside others as he desires to be an ambassador for God’s Kingdom. Central is a special place to Jake and his family as he firmly believes in Central’s mission to share the love of Jesus with others. Jake loves that Central is rooted in Biblical truth and has a desire to move beyond its walls to focus on oikos, future generations, this city, and other countries.
Tom Henderson
Tom and his wife, Laura, have been married for 25 years and have attended and served at Central as a family for more than 12 years. He has two sons, Isaiah (21) and Chase (17). Tom is the Founder and Speaker of RESGEN.
What Tom loves most about Central is that we’re an externally-focused church, doing everything we can to engage everyone who attends in the mission of reaching and discipling the next person for Christ.
Trustee Board Nominees
Amy Odland (Second Term)
Amy and her husband, Rick, have been married for 27 years and have been attending Central as a family for almost 10 years. They have 4 kids, ages 11 to 22. Amy was a teacher for five years and has been a bookkeeper and church volunteer for 20 years since. She’s also recently started her own book marketing and coaching business, partnering with publishing companies and authors releasing new books.
Amy is excited to serve on the Trustee Board again and be part of what Central is doing in Kingdom work for the glory of God.
David Peterson
David and his wife, Brenna, have been married for 10 years and have also attended Central for 10 years. They have a 16-month-old son named Micah. David is the founder and president of American Fiduciary Solutions LLC and is a licensed lawyer in South Dakota. He helps charter trust companies in South Dakota and helps them operate successfully.
David believes God is doing some great works at Central and through the people at Central. He’s grateful for Central’s presence in the Sioux Falls community and beyond. Having grown up in a small community in South Dakota, David knows the importance of having people in the church who are willing to serve. He’s also looking forward to serving with other believers who will work toward the common goal of bringing people to Christ and advancing the kingdom.
Property Board Nominees
Jarrod Smart
Jarrod and his wife, Heather, have been married for 20 years and have been a part of Central for roughly 11 years. They have two kids, Luke (15) and Evelyn (12), all of whom are involved at and attend Central. Jarrod is a home builder and a commercial contractor who also does some small land development projects.
Jarrod loves Central because by attending church here and being a part of the community of believers at Central, he’s able to deepen his faith and strengthen his walk with God. Through prayer, reading his Bible daily, and attending Central weekly, he’s equipped each week to (with God’s help) navigate the challenges he faces on a day-to-day basis. Central has also encouraged Jarrod and held him accountable to lead his family well.
He’s excited to serve at Central to use the gifts God has given him for His glory! As our church grows, the needs of the church change. Jarrod recognizes Central is in a season of change and growth and he thinks he can use his gifts to help navigate those changes in a positive and responsible way that honors the Lord.
Deane Barker
Deane and his wife, Annie, have been married for 23 years. They have three children, the youngest of whom just graduated from high school. Deane has been at Central for 37 years, since moving to Sioux Falls at age 14. He works in the software industry, designing and managing a large-scale software application.
Central has been Deane’s home for most of his life. He started attending Central when it was downtown, and he’s grown up here. He and Annie were married by the pastor at Central, and all of his children were dedicated at Central. In Deane’s words, “Central is one of the most enduring things in my life.”
Deane spent some of his career doing property management for a commercial real estate firm, and he has a genuine interest in the logistics of Central. To enable the spiritual ministry of the church, there’s a need to manage practical concerns. He enjoys the behind-the-scene aspects of enabling the church to do its work.
Nominating Committee Nominee
Lindsay Weaver
Lindsay and her husband, Aaron, have been married for 20 years and have attended Central for 10. They have three kids, Grace (17), Nora (14), and Ben (11). Lindsay is a 3rd grade teacher.
Lindsay loves several things about Central. She and Aaron were initially drawn to Central because of the excellent children’s programming. They quickly grew to love the messages, music, and amazing community of believers. She also appreciates how there are endless ways to become involved and grow in our faith. Their kids also love Wednesday nights. She’s excited to serve another term on the Nominating Committee because it’s an opportunity to collaborate with others who are passionate about carrying out Central’s mission. As the committee seeks out candidates for the various boards, Lindsay feels it’s a gift to hear about how God is working in the lives of others and how that carries out in the leadership at Central.
