All through his gospel, John identifies Jesus as being the only source of life (John 14:6). All life originates with Him (John 1:3-4). He has power to give life and take it away; even His own life. He tells the Jewish leaders, “I have authority to lay it (his life) down, and I have authority to take it up again” (John 10:18).

To demonstrate His complete power over life and death, He raises Lazarus from the dead (John 11:33-34). With one command, Jesus filled a dead man with new life. And He’s still doing it today. People lie today in the tomb of depression, sin, addiction, fear, grief, confusion, and spiritual unbelief. But Jesus, the source of life, is still raising people from the dead and emptying tombs—just like He did with Lazarus.
