Deuteronomy: 34 Truths to Lay Hold of Our Purpose
Deuteronomy 10
Sermon Description
In this week’s message, Pastor Jeff takes us into Deuteronomy 10 as we look at one of the essential truths Israel needed before stepping into the promised land. The focus is simple and encouraging: God’s purpose requires God’s mercy. By walking through Israel’s rebellion at the golden calf and God’s response in giving them a second set of tablets, Pastor Jeff shows how mercy is not just a biblical idea but a life-changing reality for anyone who follows Jesus. Throughout the message, you will hear how God used the stone tablets, the ark, and even Israel’s failure to remind His people that they never outgrow their need for mercy. You will also see how mercy is meant to move us forward, not leave us stuck in guilt or shame.
Series Overview
Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the wilderness. For 40 years they had wandered in the desert, never entering the land God had promised them, because of their lack of faith. But it was a new day, and a new generation of Israelites were ready to seize the destiny God had promised. Moses wouldn’t enter the promised land because he had cursed the people in anger. Joshua would lead them in.
Moses was speaking to a new generation who were about to step into their God given destiny. Many of them were unborn when the law had been given to Moses. There would be many battles. There were giants in the land they would need to defeat. But as they stood on the eastern border of the land God had promised them, Moses gave the people one last reminder of what they needed to know to enter the land and seize their destiny.
Deuteronomy means “Second Law.” For the second time Moses tells the people the words God had spoken. If they were to seize their destiny they would need to put these words into action. Moses, the great coach, is giving his final pre-game speech before the Israelites take the field. As we stand on the edge of our spiritual promised land, God is reminding us of the same 34 truths necessary to win our spiritual battles and seize our destiny in Christ.
