Deuteronomy: 34 Truths to Lay Hold of Our Purpose
Deuteronomy 13
Sermon Description
In this week’s message, Pastor Jeff continues our 34 Truths to Lay Hold of Our Purpose series by unpacking Deuteronomy 13 and reminding us that God’s purpose means being different from the world. He explains that being different is not about outward appearances or cultural preferences, but about holding firmly to God’s values and living according to His truth, even when it stands in contrast to the surrounding culture. Throughout the message, Pastor Jeff addresses the biblical call to value human life as God does, from the unborn to the elderly, and from the marginalized to the overlooked. By grounding this truth in Scripture, we are reminded that every person is created in the image of God and crowned with inherent worth.
Series Overview
Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the wilderness. For 40 years they had wandered in the desert, never entering the land God had promised them, because of their lack of faith. But it was a new day, and a new generation of Israelites were ready to seize the destiny God had promised. Moses wouldn’t enter the promised land because he had cursed the people in anger. Joshua would lead them in.
Moses was speaking to a new generation who were about to step into their God given destiny. Many of them were unborn when the law had been given to Moses. There would be many battles. There were giants in the land they would need to defeat. But as they stood on the eastern border of the land God had promised them, Moses gave the people one last reminder of what they needed to know to enter the land and seize their destiny.
Deuteronomy means “Second Law.” For the second time Moses tells the people the words God had spoken. If they were to seize their destiny they would need to put these words into action. Moses, the great coach, is giving his final pre-game speech before the Israelites take the field. As we stand on the edge of our spiritual promised land, God is reminding us of the same 34 truths necessary to win our spiritual battles and seize our destiny in Christ.
