Deuteronomy: 34 Truths to Lay Hold of Our Purpose
Deuteronomy 8
Sermon Description
In this week’s message, Pastor Jeff walks us through Deuteronomy chapter 8 as we explore one of the key truths Israel needed in order to step into their God given purpose. The focus this week is simple but challenging: do not take credit for what God does. Throughout the message, Pastor Jeff shows how God led Israel through adversity, provided for every basic need, poured out blessings, and even gave them the ability to succeed. Yet in the moments of comfort and success, they faced the temptation to believe it was all because of their own strength. Through Scripture and real life stories, you will be reminded that every good thing in our lives comes from the hand of God. This message invites each of us to pause, remember, and give God credit rather than take it for ourselves.
Series Overview
Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the wilderness. For 40 years they had wandered in the desert, never entering the land God had promised them, because of their lack of faith. But it was a new day, and a new generation of Israelites were ready to seize the destiny God had promised. Moses wouldn’t enter the promised land because he had cursed the people in anger. Joshua would lead them in.
Moses was speaking to a new generation who were about to step into their God given destiny. Many of them were unborn when the law had been given to Moses. There would be many battles. There were giants in the land they would need to defeat. But as they stood on the eastern border of the land God had promised them, Moses gave the people one last reminder of what they needed to know to enter the land and seize their destiny.
Deuteronomy means “Second Law.” For the second time Moses tells the people the words God had spoken. If they were to seize their destiny they would need to put these words into action. Moses, the great coach, is giving his final pre-game speech before the Israelites take the field. As we stand on the edge of our spiritual promised land, God is reminding us of the same 34 truths necessary to win our spiritual battles and seize our destiny in Christ.
